Literacy: Read, Play & Grow
Reading. Mentorship. Character Development. Recreation.
The Unique Hoops Literacy: Read, Play & Grow Program is a school-year literacy, mentoring, character-development, and recreational enrichment program for students in 1st–3rd grade. Our goal is to make reading fun and meaningful while helping students grow academically, socially, emotionally, and physically.
Each Saturday, students will participate in reading with a Unique Hoops Reading Buddy, positive conversations centered around a monthly development theme, and structured recreational activities, including the moon bounce.

Cost: $40 per month
Each weekly session includes:
- 5 Minutes: Welcome & Monthly Theme Introduction
- 20 Minutes: Reading with a Unique Hoops Reading Buddy
- 30 Minutes: Structured Recreational Play, Games, Activities & Moon Bounce
Reading With a Purpose
Read, Play & Grow is about more than simply finishing a book. Reading Buddies will help students build reading comprehension and confidence through age-appropriate conversations and questions such as:
- What happened in the story?
- How did the character handle the problem?
- What did you learn from the story?
- How does this month’s theme relate to you as a student?
This approach combines literacy, mentoring, conversation, character education, social-emotional development, and recreation.
Parent/Guardian Involvement
We also want parents and guardians to be involved when possible by:
- Reading alongside their student
- Joining discussions about the monthly theme
- Participating in selected games and recreational activities
- Encouraging students during Reading Buddy time
- Continuing reading and monthly-theme activities at home
We want Read, Play & Grow to be a family-centered experience that strengthens literacy, communication, relationships, and positive interaction.
